The City of Burnaby Archives will acquire City records identified as having archival value through the corporate records management program and will facilitate their transfer to the Archives once they become inactive.
Archival material includes those records created, received and accumulated during the course of practical civic activity by Council, and any department, office, committee, board, commission or agency of the City of Burnaby that are to be preserved because of their continuing values to the organization.
The City of Burnaby Archives will also identify and acquire corporate records with enduring value to the City that were created prior to the implementation of the corporate records management program (and not falling under established records retention and disposition authorities) and will arrange for their transfer to the Archives.
The City of Burnaby Archives will acquire and solicit the donation of archival records created by individuals, families, groups, organizations, corporations and businesses that pertain to the history and development of the City of Burnaby.
The acquisition of private records will be subject to available resources and will take into consideration factors such as copyright legislation, and conditions of access and use.
Of all national assets archives are the most precious; they are the gift of one generation to another and the extent of our care of them marks the extent of our civilization. -Arthur Doughty, Dominion Archivist of Canada, 1924 |
