Used Cooking Oil Recycling Pilot Project

A Used Cooking Oil Recycling Pilot Project at the Burnaby Still Creek Recycling Depot is set to start on October 7th, 2008. The year long Pilot Project, a partnership between ERM BioSource, the Recycling Council of BC and the City of Burnaby, aims to collect and divert used cooking oil from disposal by residents, and reuse it in the production of biofuel. Burnaby residents are encouraged to participate in the Pilot Project by dropping off their used cooking oil for recycling to the City’s Still Creek Recycling Depot. Any vegetable oil, as long as it is non-hydrogenated (canola oil, corn oil etc) will be accepted for collection.

Acceptable

  • Canola Oil
  • Corn Oil
  • Safflower Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Vegetable Oil (non-hydrogenated)
  • Other preferred oils:
    Castor, Cottonseed, False Hax, Hemp, Mustard, Peanut,
    Radish, Rapeseed, Ramtil, Rice Bran, Soy or Soy Bean, Sunflower,
    Tung

Not Acceptable

  • Bacon Fat or Grease
  • Animal Fat or Grease
  • Shortenings
  • Hydrogenated Oil
  • Animal Talo
  • Motor Oil

Note: Crisco brand shortening is hydrogenated oil and therefore is not accepted.
