The City of Burnaby encourages residents to reduce waste and conserve drinking water through the purchase of a backyard composter and rain barrel.
Yard and garden trimmings, along with fruit and vegetable peelings, can be composted at home in your own backyard. You'll make your own rich soil amendment, which is great for gardening. Composters are available from the Yard Waste Depot for $30 each (includes HST). Click here - [PDF 2.5MB] - to download a copy of the City's composting guide.
With lawn sprinkling restrictions in effect from June 1 to September 30, give yourself greater watering flexibility and give your plants the gift of warm, un-chlorinated and oxygen-rich water. Purchase a City of Burnaby Rain Barrel today, while quantities last. Each rain barrel holds up to 341 litres of water, and is specially priced at $70.00 (includes HST).
Composters and rain barrels can be purchased at the City's Yard Waste Depot. For more information about either of these items, please contact 604-294-7972 or drop by the Burnaby Yard Waste Depot located next to the Recycling Complex at 4800 Still Creek Avenue (west off of Douglas).
