Multi-family Recycling

The City's recycling program includes collection from multi-family dwellings (condos, townhouses and apartment complexes). For information on setting up recycling in your complex, phone 604-294-7972.

Multi-family recycling guidelines:

Newspaper	Newspapers and their non-glossy newsprint inserts.	Plastic bags, wire, milk cartons, other types of paper, garbage.
Mixed Paper	All other paper products including: magazines, bulk mail, cereal boxes, telephone books, glossy paper, paper egg cartons, toilet roll cores, empty clean pizza boxes, shredded paper (contained in a box or paper bag only) Note: Remove plastic liners, metal attachments and food waste.	Shredded paper in plastic bags (must be inside a box or paper bag), beverage containers (return for refund), milk cartons, waxed paper, plastic bags, wax-coated boxes or fast food containers.
Cardboard            OR	Currogated cardboard only	Shredded paper in plastic bags, beverage containers (return for refund), milk cartons, waxed-coated cardboard boxes, or fast food containers.
Mixed Containers	Glass food containers, tin and aluminum cans; rigid plastic containers and plastic bags with  on the bottom. Note: Rinse, remove lids and flatten if possible. Place all plastic bags inside one bag)	Styrofoam, other plastics marked 3, 6 or 7, motor oil and antifreeze containers, milk cartons, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, flower pots, drinking or window glass, aerosol cans, ceramics, china, wire hangers, pots/pans or cutlery.

 
Reminders:

• City accepts rigid plastics with numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5, and plastic shopping bags
• Rinse all containers thoroughly
• No food contaminated articles please.

Multi-family Garbage Collection

The City offers a garbage collection service to multi-family buildings. There are two types of containers used for Multi-family garbage collection: 1) Light commercial receptacle (automated collection service or 2) Municipal receptacle. Materials NOT accepted in the Garbage:

• Liquids of any kind
• Household chemicals (cleaners, soaps)
• Building and demolition materials
• Drywall*
• Dirt, rocks and sod
• Animal waste and carcasses
• Household batteries, including rechargeable (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Recyclable materials accepted in the City's recycling program & Recycling Depot:
  • Cardboard, newspaper, office paper, mixed waste paper (boxboard, magazines, envelopes, directories)*
  • Glass and metal food containers*
  • Plastic containers numbered 1, 2, 4 & 5* & plastic shopping bags
• Household paints, stains & their containers including aerosol* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Solvents, flammable liquids & gasoline* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Lead acid (vehicle) batteries* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Prescription & non-prescription drugs* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Motor oil & containers* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Oil filters* (accepted at the City's Recycling Depot)
• Car parts
• Vehicle tires*

Multi-Family Yard Waste Collection

Yard and garden waste collection isn't just for single family homes. The City can provide yard and garden waste collection service for multi-family units. Contact the City's Recycling Line at 604.294.7972 for information on how to start yard waste collection at your complex.

Reminders:

• You can also drop off yard waste year round at the Yard Waste Drop-off Centre. Charges are based on weight. Cash only.
• Christmas trees are collected on designated days in January. Please monitor the City's website for instructions on how to place your tree out for collection. Christmas trees can be brought to the City's Yard Waste Depot after Christmas.
